Dear Rotarians,
In exactly a week from now, on May 10, my club, the Rotary Club of Madras, enters the 95th year after it was Inaugurated on May 10, 1929. We were one of the three clubs formed in India, by the MARCO POLO OF ROTARY, Late Rtn. James Wheeler Davidson of Calgary, Canada. We are the 3rd. oldest club in India after the Rotary Clubs of Calcutta and Bombay. The RC of Delhi, which was also formed by Jim Davidson in 1929, went defunct in 1931.
Here are a few pictures of the man himself and some of the Original documents that were submitted to RI in 1929.
Also is the picture of our Charter President and thus our First President Sir. Godfrey G Armstrong, who was then the Chairman of the Madras Port Trust.
