Today the Rotary club of Madras embarks on the retoration of yet another large water body in Chennai. This 198acre lake will be desilted, The bund strengthened and native saplings planted and extensive public awareness campaign will be done. Co-funded by a global grant from the Rotary Foundation this is a very impactful project for the residents and ecology of the city of Chennai India. Project is being implemented by Environment Foundation of India (EFI).
The Project Site
On the basis of field verification, Sithalapakkam Lake which is close to Madambakkam
village near Tambaram has been identified as the candidate site. It is a deep water pond
under the jurisdiction of Madambakkam town Panchayat.
The goal of the project is to evolve and implement a restoration project that addresses hydrological, ecological and social dimensions necessary for reviving water bodies, and that which can be replicated in other parts of Chennai, and Tamil Nadu.
This Lake will benefit approximately 100000 people in and around it.
